To kick off Oracle's OpenWorld annual user conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Oracle's CTO and executive chairman Larry Ellison detailed the steps that led Oracle be positioned in "every layer of the cloud,” outlined Oracle’s top design goals in all three layers of the cloud, and also highlighted key Oracle announcements around technologies such as Exadata and Oracle Database. Security is a growing area of focus, he pointed out.  “As we push security down the stack, we see huge benefits. When we have security in the database and all the applications are encrypted, guess what? All the applications, all the data is protected. The lower you push security, the better you are.”

Michael Dell Looks at the Future of IT at Dell World 2015
In the 1989 movie, "Back to the Future Part II," actor Michael J. Fox's character traveled in time to October 21, 2015. And, on October 21, 2015, in his keynote at Dell World 2015 in Austin, Michael S. Dell, founder and CEO of Dell, expanded on what it means for organizations to be future-ready. Referring to the company’s plans to acquire EMC in a deal valued at $67 billion, Dell said, “As I speak to you here today with this agreement in place Dell is set to become an enterprise solutions powerhouse."

Oracle Introduces Next-Generation Monitoring and Analytics Solution—Oracle Management Cloud
At Oracle OpenWorld today, Oracle is announcing a suite of integrated monitoring, management and analytics solutions for IT organizations. Part of the Oracle Cloud Platform, the new services are called Oracle Management Cloud (OMC) and are aimed at enabling a real-time, collaborative environment in which DevOps leaders, line-of-business managers and business analysts to have an end-to-end view into the applications and technologies that support business services.

At Oracle OpenWorld 2015 Oracle announced new Oracle Database Cloud offerings, expanding its portfolio of Oracle Cloud Platform, services that enable organizations to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure database-driven solutions and applications in the cloud. The new capabilities were outlined by Larry Ellison, CTO and executive chairman of Oracle, in his Sunday keynote and formally announced on Monday.

‘Spark-as-a-Service’ Launched by IBM
IBM has redesigned more than 15 of the company's core analytics and commerce solutions with Apache Spark - helping to accelerate their real-time processing capabilities. IBM also announced the availability of its Spark-as-a-Service offering - IBM Analytics on Apache Spark - on IBM Bluemix following a successful 13-week beta program with more than 4,600 developers using it to build intelligent business and consumer apps fueled by data.

TeamQuest Adds Capacity Management Software for Microsoft Azure
TeamQuest, a global leader in IT capacity planning and performance monitoring, is adding advanced capacity management and application health capabilities for the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform. The TeamQuest solution is already available for Amazon EC2, and, the company says, with the addition of Azure, TeamQuest software will now cover the two most popular infrastructure-as-a-service providers.

Why Cloud Matters
In his keynote address on Monday morning at Oracle OpenWorld 2015, Oracle CEO Mark Hurd discussed cloud technology and the reasons cloud has become so important to Oracle and its customers. Companies are getting squeezed, he said. They have old infrastructure; there is the need for innovation but also great pressure to do things such as increase security and adhere to governance mandates which are not innovative; and also pressure to keep costs flat, without increasing IT costs. “This is why the cloud is such a big deal,” said Hurd. Against this backdrop of conflicting challenges, Hurd laid out his list of top 5 predictions for 2025.
